Olha Poliakova is a dancer and choreographer, currently studying at London Contemporary Dance School.
“My dancing pathway has started from a very young age. I have trained in many dance styles including jazz-modern, ballet and contemporary. In Ukraine I was exposed to a number of movement approaches through workshops, intensives, and day to day training. However, only after coming to UK, I started to dig deep into my personal style and discover myself as an artist. Currently my main interest is improvisation. I am fascinated by the ability to generate movement here and now using stimulus from surroundings, people, imagination, or music. I have worked on a few improvisation-based performances which involved using film, torches in darkness, writing/drawing, or speech. Through improvisation I come up with many ideas, which later use in choreographic projects. Creating my own work is the best way to express myself and draw attention to important topics. However, after discovering Gaga language, I also saw dance as pure physicality rather than a concept. Merging all those things together I create performances that stay with an audience both visually and emotionally.”
