Greta Papa is a Greek-Albanian violinist who is based in London, UK. In 1996 she moved from Korçë,
Albania, to Thessaloniki, Greece, where she continued her studies at the Synchrono Conservatory and
obtained the Diploma in Solo Violin Performance (distinction and First Prize). In 2012, she graduated with
distinction from the University of Macedonia with a Bachelor of Music, Science and Art. In 2018 she came
to the UK in order to study with Andrew Watkinson for the Masters in Performance in Orchestral Artistry,
on a full scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. As a student, Greta was appointed as the
orchestra leader and soloist in all three institutions. Currently Greta is studying at Trinity Laban with
Stephanie Gonley for the Postgraduate Artist Diploma course, on the Trinity College London Scholarship.
Greta has been a member of the Thessaloniki State Orchestra since she was eighteen years old, when she
was selected for the first violins section by the then Artistic Director Leonidas Kavakos, and while she was
still a student. As a member of this orchestra, Greta had the opportunity to work alongside a number of
prominent international soloists, among them Natalia Gutman, Gil Shaham, Leonidas Kavakos, Vadim
Repin. At the same time as studying and playing full time in the orchestra, Greta also gave solo
performances of the Brahms Violin Concerto, Chausson Poeme, Brahms Double Concerto, Vivaldi Summer
and Sarasate Zigeunerweisen, in both the Thessaloniki and Athens Megaron Concerts Halls, with their
respective resident State Orchestras. In addition to these, she actively participated in Masterclasses with
Pierre Amoyal and Ulf Hoelcher in Salzburg Mozarteum, and also with Rudolf Koelman in Thessaloniki
State Conservatory and Angel Stankov in Syncrhono Conservatory.
Besides her extensive experience playing with the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, Greta is also passionate
about performing chamber music. She formed the LYNX quartet, Castalia piano trio, Versus piano trio,
TSSO Members Octet and Grasp trio with cello and Bajan, and with these groups, she has performed
throughout Greece for over twenty years. Also, Greta is a member of the Thessaloniki based contemporary
music ensemble dissonArt, and she was the titular soloist of Strychnine Lady by Gianni Christou, when
they performed it in 2016 and 2017 for the official inauguration of the Niarchos Cultural Centre in Athens.
