Daniel Whitehead is the 2023/24 recipient of the MA Materials and Research Award, and studies MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL.
“I focus mostly on sculpture and installation but do occasionally work in different mediums. The work itself revolves around my own experiences growing up and living in the western world and the influences that has had on me. I include many pop culture references in the work and enjoy working with objects and characters (such as Mickey Mouse) that are well known and easily recognisable. Often working figuratively, my latest works have involved casting my own legs and body parts and combining them with other objects in awkward and usual ways; three pairs sprouting from a box or a set of legs protruding from a suitcase. I seek to disrupt and critique our assumptions of these familiar objects and images but also to create a sense of humour within the audience.”
