My drawings are attempts to unite dislocated fragments of memories and images; like recalling dreams lost in the morning sunlight. With the grant I have received from CAC Trust, I decided to go to an island called Funafuti of Tuvalu, located in the South Pacific. Tuvalu is said to be the first country to sink if the global climate change continues and since my works are often about “beautiful things that disappear”, I thought it was a perfect choice of destination. In the 10 days that I spent on the island, I was faced with the tragic reality as well as the warm smiles of the islanders. This precious experience has not only helped me create works, but it made me realize the things that really matter to me.
