My paintings may be best read as abstractions, whether they contain figurative elements or not. I am continually redefining my concept of what a painting is or can be, in relation to current debates and the masterful works in oil that brought me to love painting to begin with. What I have discovered is that my interest primarily lies in playing with visual puzzles of objects such as disembodied, sexy lips, fuzzy Cezanne clouds, floating reflections on water, and so on. To seduce, I employ a battery of marks and viscosities of paint mediums that enable me to create a final image that contains meaning and pleasure for those who continue to look after I have moved on to making next picture.
