My practice explores the traditional parameters of photography and the materiality of the negative. It also investigates the relationship between the photograph, memory and the degradation of memory over time. As memory begins to fade, the line between fact and fiction becomes blurred. Experimentation with the material leads my practice. My working environment can be described as an alchemist studio: there’s this sense of freedom, that potentially anything can happen to the negative. There is no conclusion, no photograph is ever finished. I hope that my work invites the viewer to engage with these photographs differently. To ask the viewer what is missing and to challenge their understanding of the image. The process of looking and the urge to understand intrigues me as an artist. My work highlights and focuses on the absences. There’s something magical about being content in losing irretrievable information and asking the viewer to be content with that.
